Marc Vedo - May 2011
Bouncing from pillar to post over these past few months Marc Vedo has been a man on a mission. That mission: to stretch himself as far as feasibly possible. When he's not been gallivanting around the world swapping time zones like socks, he's been fixed up in the studio or running his Koolwaters Empire from its base hub in Bristol.
After the huge career milestone of mixing the cover mount CD for the biggest dance music magazine in the world, DJ MAG, accompanied by a double page interview, Marc has been an ever-present figure on the international club circuit Marc having spent much of 2011 darting between countries showcasing a new tougher, edged sound within his arsenal. The arrival of this fresh style has led to him appearing at a wide number of esteemed venues such as Pacha - Munich, Panama- Amsterdam, Monday Bar- Sweden, 360- Istanbul, RAI club- Moscow, Ministry of Sound - London, Venus - Manchester, Stereo Lab- Singapore, Theatro Disco- Italy and the amazing Queens Club-Paris to name but a few of the many gigs over the first quarter of the year.
Additionally his time in the studio this year also appears to have been well spent having put a string of well-received releases. His most recent record 'Sunshine into my life' - collaboration with Darren Tate and Boy George - has garnered much attention from elite performers like Chris Lake, Roger Sanches, Axwell and Stonebridge. The single which goes under the trio's pseudonym Funky Sober and released through Marc's label VG Records, which he co-runs with Boy George on 16th May, was recently selected by Channel 4 for use on its prime-time show 'Skins', as well as by Vauxhall for a forthcoming advertising campaign on radio networks around the world.
With a series of long haul tours schedule over the summer Marc's been hard at work completing a bed of new material that will see the light of day during the summer period. First up is another release due out on VG Records titled 'Into the Deep' and which features John Gibbons on vocals. John has long been backing vocalist for Boy George and has a long and extensive career working in the music industry, including backing vocals for Madonna. The follow up to this will be a new track that features famed Bulgarian pop queen Desi Slava and 'Escada', due out on Kid Massive's new label Get Up Records on 19th May. 13th June new single on Koolwaters Recordings called 'Back to school'. A fusion of old classic rave synth sounds with a very Axwell feel.
Marc's just completed a collaboration with the legendary George Michael, due to come out in the coming months. This will be George Michael's first official release for a number of years and one of the most exciting projects to date for this prolific up and coming producer. He has also just completed as remix of Boy George's next club release 'Brand New' due to come out on Decode Records. Marc will soon start on his edit for Joss Stones' forthcoming single on SonyBMG
On the road Marc will be taking to the skies with a bucket load of club and festivals shows this summer with appearance at the renowned Sundance Festival in Switzerland with David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia, Love Parade in Switzerland on the opening float, Berlin Music Festival in the German capital, as well as being a panelist and performer at this year's MMC Music Festival in Portugal.
Coming out on July 28th, Marc has been mixing a box fresh Koolwaters compilation with fellow friend DJ/ Producer Paul Thomas (Toolrooms). The album will be available in both digital and physical format and will feature a host of Koolwaters releases alongside some additional material from the likes of Paul Thomas, Kid Massive, Boy George, David Penn, Adamski and Hoxton Whores. Expect another stereo bumping mix of some of the summers hottest and most sought after tracks.
